Michael Eastin - tenor trombone

Michael Eastin was born and raised in Arizona. His parents moved to Peoria in 1972 where he attended Ira A Murphy Elementary School and joined band in the 5th grade. Michael attended Peoria High School where he was very active in the band program. By the end of his senior year he had participated in many Solo and Ensemble, Regional and All-State Band festivals. He was also the recipient of the John Phillip Sousa Award his senior year.

His first two years of college were spent studying music at GCC. Mr. Eastin’s private instructor during high school and GCC was Mr. Bob (Robert) McAllister.  He transferred to NAU his junior year on a full music scholarship, where he received a Bachelors in Music Education and graduated Cum Laude. While attending NAU, Michael seized the opportunity to play in many different music ensembles including Wind, Orchestra, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Brass Choir, Brass Quintet, Pit Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Trombone Choir. Michael has been teaching for 22 years, 20 of those years in Deer Valley.

Michael is a founding member of Bones Southwest along with with Bob Weller, and his favorite piece from our book is West Side Story (He gets very excited when we call it.)

Michael was recently featured playing the lead on the Urbie Green arrangement of Here’s That Rainy Day. This rendition was performed by Michael at the 2022 ASU trombone day concert.
